A Maundy Thursday Reflection

God washes our feet.

And tells us to do likewise.

He tells us to serve and to not seek preference.

He tells us we are not entirely dirty.

He says if we cannot humble ourselves we cannot identify with him.

He prays that we would be one with each other and one with God.

He is one with humanity and one with God.

He sends a comforter and advocate to all flesh.

This Spirit is God who lives in us.

He initiates a new covenant with humankind.

He shares a covenant meal.

He blesses, breaks and gives the bread.

He blesses and gives the wine.

Somehow he inhabits the bread and wine.

The meal is divine.

He says to do this in his memory.

He gives us a new command.

He tells us to love as he loves.

This is how others will know we are identified with him.

He is betrayed by a good friend.

He is denied by his best friend.

He is deserted by almost all his friends.

He is denied justice.

He is condemned.
